Mise-en-scene

I will be looking a scene from The Business and analysing examples of mise-en-scene

Screen shot 2015-03-17 at 13.36.04

the lighting of the scene shown here represents both the setting that these character live in as well as the characters themselves. The lighting used is very dim and dull this shows that the surroundings these characters are in is a very bleak and boring area and could also represent there characters mood as being very bored and it gives the audience a feel of what kind of area the film is set in. Also the clothing there characters are wearing are also dimmer colours and this further highlights the dim and gloomy tone for the film.

As the film moves on the lighting brightens dramatically to show that the world the characters now live is a much brighter, vibrant & exciting setting. The colours used also are representative of the era as being an exciting, energetic era. Also the the product placement used in this scene gives us a insight in to the personality of the character as the audience will immediately  identify his fashion with the football hooligan culture.

This Scene represents the whole back drop the the story as the film is about smuggling cocaine across the border and some viewers may view this as a hidden message to represent the subject of the film.
